A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a blog sharing my love of coconut oil and it’s many uses with the world.  Today I will share with you another of my favourite kitchen cupboard essentials, Apple Cider Vinegar.

A glass of vinegar is probably the last thing that you you would think of reaching for to quench your thirst, but keep reading to find out why you should give it a try!

Which vinegar should I get?

Buy organic and unfiltered cider vinegar which contains ‘the mother’. The mother is made up of strands of protein, enzymes and friendly bacteria that are really good for you.  You can recognise ‘the mother’ in the bottom of the bottle, it gives the vinegar a murky and bitty appearance. Sounds gross, but its really good!

How to take it

Shake the bottle so that ‘the mother’ mixes in with the rest of the vinegar.

You can take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar straight, if you are brave enough! or you can add it to salad dressings.

However, I like to make a drink out of it.  I mix a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with half a cup of boiling water and then top it up with cold water to make it the perfect drinking temperature.  If the taste is too strong for you, add a spoonful of honey to sweeten it up.

It is the perfect drink to start your day with. As soon as you wake up in the morning, make yourself one of these drinks and feel how it kick starts your whole system.

For me, I really feel it dissolves any crap that’s in my throat (sorry- pretty gross!) and it really feels as if it is killing all of the bad stuff in my digestive tract.

What does it do for the body?

So why should I drink Vinegar?!  I hear you ask…

It lowers the bodies bad cholesterol– A study has shown that consumption of Apple Cider Vinegar over an 8 week period significantly lowers the amount of harmful blood lipids that lead to high cholesterol.

Taken before food, apple cider vinegar helps to improve digestion and is great for people with stomach issues- including indigestion and bloating.

The high concentration of acetic acid in apple cider vinegar helps the body to absorb minerals from food better.

Apple Cider Vinegar is antibacterial and can also be uses for cleaning around the house and as a toner when applied to the skin.  But is also helps to kill off any unfriendly visitors in the body.

It helps to stabilise blood sugar levels, so is great for people with type 2 diabetes.  But it’s also good if you don’t have diabetes, as the effect of high blood sugar is believed to be a major cause of aging and various chronic diseases.

It can also help to improve symptoms of arthritis. Studies have shown that when taking apple cider vinegar in water for 8 weeks, swelling and pain around the joints was significantly reduced.

Give it a try and let us know how you get on.
